I can’t believe how quickly this month has gone by and at the same time, how busy we have been. Our ministry is off to a great start. We have amazing interns, Alondra and Andrea, who have exceptional ideas and skills which make planning for programs much more fun and meaningful for myself. We've had several great events already: a senior river float to celebrate our soon to be pandemic graduating seniors, a freshman movie night to celebrate our freshmen who graduated from middle school, high school small groups, and our Student Leader (SL) kick off event.

All these events were successful because there was so much support behind each one! Shoutout to Pastor Michelle Huskamp from MCC for coordinating HS small groups, Missy Maxon and Vicky Berg for making sure our River Float experience could happen, and to Alondra and Andrea for being flexible and going with the flow (pun intended) on how ministry looks this year.

We have also been focused on rolling out our SL program and adapting curriculum to the ministry needs this year. Student Leaders met for a kick off event led by Andrea where we feasted, painted, studied a psalm, played games, and enjoyed each other's company. This year, student leadership in Monroe will look much different. Due to COVID restrictions and safety risks, our partnership with Kidz Club will be less hands-on as they will not be meeting in large groups this year. This means all our student leaders will be more hands on with our City Life ministries! I’m excited for the growth to come from this and the opportunities that will rise from the SL program. I’m very proud of each student for dedicating their time to serve their community during a pandemic and being intentional about following the example Jesus has left for us.

I’ve also enjoyed celebrating 5 years of friendship, mentorship, and being in relationship with some of the girls I consider my little sisters today. Our initial bond kicked off 5 years ago when I house sat for our church members, Laron and Donna. We were able to have a sleepover and really get to know each other.

Fast forward to this month where I again house sat for Laron and Donna. Yet again was able to invite them over and we cooked a whole feast together. Only this time, I can say I've witnessed so much growth and leadership in all these girls. We even added more amazing girls to our group! As we sat around the dinner table together, I realized how much God has done for each of us in our lives in just those 5 years. I was filled with gratitude and awe for what God can do as long as I am willing to follow his call in my life. To my girls, I love you forever and I look forward to our next feast in 5 years!

PRAY

  • Pray for God to bless our Student Leaders and their families this year.
  • Praise God for what is doing in Monroe and for the community members who support our ministry.
  • Pray for the family and friends of Wendy Castro who will miss her dearly and grieve her loss. Give them peace and comfort during this tough time.
  • Join us in praying over each students' family: favor in the parents' work, finances, food supply, and family relationships.
  • Pray that our government officials would do what's right and be held accountable to bring justice to those who deserve it.
  • Pray that our team would be filled with God's wisdom and spirit as we plan curriculum for the year.
