Minta Buse - December 2019 Ministry Update

Not only is this year the end of another adventurous year of ministry, but it is also the end to another decade of seeing both the joys and pains of serving the young people and their families who God has called me to serve! As I reflected on all that has happened, a few major themes emerged!

After working in Snohomish County (primarily S. Everett and Monroe) for 14 years, many of my students and their families are like family to me. This past year, I had a student from Everett live with me while she was homeless. I was also asked to counsel and officiate the wedding for two more of my students who I have known since 5/6 grades; they are now 20 and getting married! God knew that I would need them and that they would need me in each other's lives!

Holistic ministry in neighborhoods of need would not be possible without our church family/partners. This past year, our partnerships with The Monroe Covenant Church, South Everett Foursquare, Cascade Community Church, Faith Heritage, and Mill Creek Foursquare have been essential to meeting the needs in our community. We need each other! Our churches provided meals, prayer, Christmas gifts, volunteers, funding, and even opened their homes to our young people to provide housing and host events such as our Student Leader lunches!

In addition to ministering to neighborhoods holistically, our goal has always been to empower the youth to make a difference in their own families and communities. This year, we have seen our youth flourish as leaders helping lead/run our/their programs, design our sweatshirts, serve/lead in our churches, and minister to each other!

As we look to this next year and decade, my prayer is that The Church continues to become more like family and our youth are allowed to help lead in it and influence it's direction and call to serve the world the way God neighborhoods and homes!
